How to use Discount Calculator
- Enter the price and the discount percentage.
- If needed, add a second discount or a tax.
- Read the final price and the savings, or switch to the mode that finds the original price.
Tips and limits
- Two discounts of 20% and 10% do not add up to 30%: the second applies to the already reduced price.
- Tax is calculated after the discounts.
- Choose the currency to see amounts in their usual format.
What it is for and how it works
Discounts are applied by multiplying, not adding. That is why two successive reductions are worth less than the sum of their percentages. Knowing this helps you compare offers that look similar.
In reverse, if you know what you paid and the percentage taken off, you can tell what it used to cost. It is useful for checking whether a “sale” really is one.
Frequently asked questions about Discount Calculator
How is a discounted price calculated?
Multiply the price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). With 20% off 100 you get 100 × 0.8 = 80.
How do I find the original price?
Divide the price paid by (1 − discount ÷ 100) in the “Find the original price” mode.
How do stacked discounts work?
They are applied one after another. 20% and then 10% equal 28% in total.
